Splotch of blue

Their voices roared over each other,
but he was too small to tell who was right,
the color blue soon became his favorite,
for it showed on mama’s skin, a little permanent stain
it slowly grew on him too, a bump that hurt
but a bump that meant love, at least that’s what they told him.

By the time he was five,
the noises grew louder,
more glass was shattered,
more blue bumps were visible,
his favorite toy became the wall,
for the wall gave him love, let him draw all over
with his blunt crayons and puny fingers,

By the time he was ten,
papa was long gone now-
their house had more visitors,
some with badges, some with piles of paper
‘my friends, my dear,’ his mother lied to him,
strangers bent down to say hi as they embraced his trust,
packed him in a little cab, off to the big building down the road,
but mama was no where to be found,
instead he was surrounded by girls and boys,
who pulled his cheeks and told them they loved him,
they too had some blue stains, but his were better- he thought

By the time he was fifteen,
he packed his bags again, another house he went,
this one was packed with cordial faces,
a special warmth that begged him to stay,
but he was different to his new family,
his teeth were more crooked, his hair more frizzy,
but his little stains were wiped off by the love he now received.

By the time he was 30,
he had finally heard of mama and papa,
the liars who broke his childhood,
no scent of despair was to be found,
as his attention was diverted to his own little ones,
making sure that their best friend wasn’t the wall,
his house was more peaceful then before,
adopting the same genial aura he once tasted at fifteen.

He made sure their skin never tasted blue,
but rather kissed by the sun, for he believed
nature’s embrace was the best type of love a child could receive.
